HANOI, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported nearly 1.3 million tons of coffee worth roughly 2.9 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of this year, witnessing a decrease of 22.5 percent and 3.8 percent respectively, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Thursday.

Germany and the United States continued to be the two biggest Vietnamese coffee importers, and other countries which imported much bigger volumes of the product in the 11-month period included Italy, India and Belgium.

Vietnam will pour 170 billion Vietnamese dong (7.5 million U.S. dollars) mainly into creating four varieties of high-quality coffee to strengthen coffee production and export in the 2018-2023 period, the ministry said.

By 2023, the Vietnamese Robusta coffee productivity is expected to increase to 2.7 tons per hectare, and the Arabica coffee productivity to 2 tons per hectare. By 2035, export prices of Vietnamese branded coffee are expected to be equal to those of similar foreign products.
