Malaysia Airlines to increase flight frequency to Beijing
From:ChinaDaily   |  2019-10-10 16:11

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Airlines will increase its flight frequency to Beijing from seven to 10 per week as it relocates its operations to the Beijing Daxing International Airport from the Beijing Capital International Airport on Jan 1 next year, the airline said on Thursday.

Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Izham Ismail said in a statement that operating from the new airport would enhance the travel experience for its passengers and allow better connectivity.

"While we had great success with operating the route from Beijing Capital International Airport, moving to the new, ground-breaking Daxing airport will provide us the opportunity to expand and grow further into Beijing in the future."

"It will enhance the travel experience and comfort levels of our passengers with the airport's state-of-the-art facilities, and will facilitate better connectivity with our other airline partners," he said.

Izham also said that the airline viewed this as part of its strategic development process to strengthen its position as a key full service carrier operating into China.

He added that the airline is looking to capture new opportunities by growing connectivity into the country either through more direct flights or via partnerships with key Chinese carriers.

The new airport, located 46 km from downtown Beijing, was opened on Sept 25. The passenger throughput and cargo throughput of the new airport are expected to reach 72 million and 2 million tons respectively by 2025, with 620,000 takeoffs and landings.
