The Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival VIII 2017/2018 is to be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, from December 1, 2017 to January 27, 2018. As the event creates a great opportunity for Chinese culture to shine on the Middle East stage, Shanghai Orient Webcasting Co., Ltd.(Eastday.com), while partnering with the MiddleEast International Exhibition Group (MIE Group), will showcase Chinese folk culture and intangible cultural heritage (including Chinese martial arts, tai chi, five-animal exercise, eight-trigram boxing, waist drum, umbrella dance, Shanghai painting embroidery, cheongsam, silk, tea making, shuttletatting, dough figurines, TCM health care, leather making and pottery) and related crafts and creative artworks. In addition, Eastday.com will invite Shanghai Hengshan (Group) Corporation to the 8th China (UAE) Trade Fair, which is to be held in the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from December 10-12, 2017, so as to help Shanghai’s enterprises expand the Middle East market and promote the implementation of the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative.

Shanghai Hengshan (Group) Corporation will participate in the 8th China (UAE) Trade Fair.

As a transcontinental region across Asia, Africa and Europe, the Middle East plays a major role in the world. Historically, it was where the Silk Road and the Spice Road went through, promoting the economic, political and cultural exchanges between the East and West. In the new era, thanks to China’s B&R Initiative, the relations between Asia, Africa and Europe have become closer and more reciprocal. As a neighbor of China, the Middle East is a key point in the B&R Initiative.

The cultural and economic exchanges between China and the Middle East have been on the rise. Over the past three years or so, they have carried out extensive cooperation in various aspects such as infrastructure, economy and finance, maritime affairs, ecological conservation and environmental protection, technology and culture. For instance, China has signed Belt and Road cooperation MOU with countries like Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

As a mainstream media company in Shanghai, Eastday.com seizes the new opportunities created by the B&R Initiative and actively supports Shanghai’s role as a strategic hub on the B&R. It has opened overseas channels such as the Middle East Channel, focusing on overseas news, exhibitions, culture, tourism and other information. On May 12, 2017, it launched a website named “Belt and Road Initiative: Shanghai’s Role” (http://english.eastday.com/silkroad/index.html) and its mobile version, featuring columns including “Shanghai,” “Business,” “Culture” and “Connection of Hearts.” While stressing Shanghai’s enterprises participating in the B&R Initiative, the website also showcases the folk exchanges between Shanghai and the countries and regions involved in the initiative. In the same month, a WeChat official account was also created to post information regarding the initiative and Shanghai’s role in promoting the cooperation between China and other B&R countries.

Besides, by integrating various resources, Eastday.com has built an offline service and trade platform for Chinese and overseas enterprises, so as to facilitate their cooperation and development. As a media supporter, it was responsible for news coverage of the China Trade Week Ghana (May 17-18, 2017 in Accra, Ghana) and China Trade Week Iran (September 19-22, 2017 in Tehran, Iran). While serving as an important channel for local purchasers to learn about Chinese culture and goods, the China Trade Week has created an effective platform for Chinese and overseas enterprises to communicate and cooperate with each other and has set an example for the implementation of the B&R Initiative in the Middle East.

The China Trade Week Ghana was held from May 17-18, 2017 in Accra, capital of Ghana.

The China Trade Week Iran was held from September 19-22, 2017 in Tehran, capital of Iran.
