TAIPEI, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Taipei 101, the landmark skyscraper in Taipei, featured a lighting display on Sunday night to pay tribute to acclaimed documentary director Chi Po-lin, who died in a helicopter crash Saturday.

The Chinese characters for "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above," the name of Chi's famous aerial documentary released in 2013, appeared in lights at the top of Taipei 101 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday evening. The skyscraper's LED screen also honored the director's work by displaying "Seeing Taiwan, Forever Chi Po-lin."

Chi died in a helicopter crash in Taiwan's Hualien County Saturday morning while he and two others were conducting an aerial photography mission for the sequel to "Beyond Beauty."

Chi and his team planned to shoot the sequel over the course of a year and a half, including scenes from the Chinese mainland, Malaysia, New Zealand and Japan.

His first and only documentary, produced for 90 million new Taiwan dollars (2.99 million U.S. dollars), was the most expensive documentary in Taiwan and received the "Best Documentary" award at the 50th Golden Horse Awards in 2014.

Investigation into the cause of the crash is under way. Experts said discovering the cause could be difficult as there was no "black box" installed on the helicopter. Black boxes are not necessary for aircraft under 5,700 kg, according to a regulation of Taiwan's aviation act.
