BEIJING - China's top legislature, the National People's Congress, on Thursday started the closing meeting of its annual session.

Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Chinese lawmakers approved a resolution on the government work report at the closing meeting.

China will work to ensure achieving the development goals of winning the battle against poverty and completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects this year, said the report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang last week.

Chinese lawmakers voted to adopt the country's Civil Code.

The Civil Code will take effect on Jan 1, 2021.

China is set to make national security laws for Hong Kong as a related decision was adopted at the national legislature.
