From:ChinaDaily   |  2020-10-21 13:14

Shanghai on Tuesday unveiled an international intellectual property hub port at the 17th International Intellectual Property Forum held in the city.

The forum was co-organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.

According to officials, the hub will work to attract global quality resources in IP creation, protection, application and transaction to support technological innovation and economic development.

The forum also saw seven Shanghai-based enterprises and institutions from multiple fields win the IP innovation awards by WIPO and the Shanghai government for their achievements in IP protection, application and utilization.

Winners included East China Normal University Press, Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology and Spreadtrum Communications (Shanghai).

"IP transformation and application is at the heart of realizing the value of intellectual property, and Shanghai has established an IP operation and service system that embraces the resources of platforms, institutions, capital, and industries," said Chen Qun, vice mayor of Shanghai, at the forum.

"The city will further upgrade the system and strengthen policy innovation to promote the value of intellectual property and to build itself into a place for realizing the value of knowledge worldwide," Chen said.

Rao Zihe, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stressed that the core of IP transformation and utilization lies in technological breakthroughs, which is challenging for domestic basic research and the construction of the IP system.

"We should learn from the experiences of other countries and accelerate IP innovation and corresponding services for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements," Rao said.
