Cake filled with century egg, a pungent appetizer in the Chinese diet,has aroused heated discussion on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Century egg-duck, chicken or quail egg preserved in clay for months–has been enjoyed in China for hundreds of years but was listed among the world’s top-ten disgusting foods by CNN due to foreigners’misunderstanding of its nature (somewhat akin to the widespread belief that MSG is far more dangerous than salt) as well as serious food-safety concerns.

Here are some other wicked cuisines that can have your taste buds begging for mercy.

Bat soup

Soup made with fruit bats was so popular in Guam that the bats were nearly eaten into extinction. When the bats are cooked, they produce a strong, urine-like smell, but their meat is allegedly sweet and tastes somewhat like chicken.

Eggplant with chocolate sauce

With chocolate sauce on top, the sweet-tart soft eggplant has a quite unique taste.

Watermelon pizza

Placed in the shape of a pizza, watermelon slices topped with kiwifruit, strawberries and blueberries is really a fruit feast.
