Coronavirus proved to transmit via items
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2020-10-22 13:53

COVID-19 has been proven to spread from items to humans, announced the Qingdao government at the anti-pandemic press briefing on October 20. It is the first time in the world that experts have found sufficient evidence that the virus can be transmitted from items to people.

Live new coronavirus was detected and isolated from positive samples from packages of imported frozen cod in Qingdao, being the first time that the live virus has been detected on cold chain food packages. The finding will pave an important way for further study and anti-pandemic work.

Chen Wansheng, deputy director of the general office of the city government, said that workers involved in the loading, unloading, and transportation of imported cold chain food in ports and cold storage will be given compulsory nucleic acid testing every three to five days. If engaging in cold chain work for more than 5 days, tests should be done every 5 days. Others directly in contact with the refrigerated food should be tested every seven days. All of them should be quarantined in designated places before the test results come out.

All imported frozen and refrigerated food must be reported to the market supervision department and imported livestock and meat products should receive a negative nucleic acid test certificate before being transported to factories for production.

Since 12 locally-transmitted coronavirus cases were reported in the Chinese port city of Qingdao on October 11, it has once again sparked concerns of a wider outbreak after several months of zero local spread cases across China.
