Ink painter Zhao Junsheng (1944-2013), who is known for depicting Beijing folklore, also painted themes related ancient literary figures.

His works are now on show at the National Museum of China in Beijing. The exhibition, A Commemoration of Zhao Junsheng's Art, also displays his caricatures.

Zhao started his career drawing comics and illustrations in the 1970s. He then turned to ink painting in the 1990s. His father, Zhao Songtao, was an established ink painter of the mountain and water genre.

The paintings on show were donated by Zhao's family to the National Museum of China, and they are on display through Sept 30.
