LONDON, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China Philharmonic Orchestra on Monday night presented a concert in collaboration with Britain's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) at the Barbican Centre in London.

This "China Night" concert featured works by renowned Chinese composers, including the popular Yellow River Concerto performed by Chinese pianist Wan Jieni. In a spirit of cooperation, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Xu Zhong, general director of Shanghai Opera.

Chinese ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming attended the concert and made a speech at a reception before the concert, stressing that the year 2019 marks not only the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, but also the 65th anniversary of China-Britain diplomatic relationship at the level of charge d'affaires.

The Chinese envoy said the concert is of special significance because it will play three special notes: the note of progress, the note of mutual learning and integration as well as the note of exchanges and win-win cooperation.

"I sincerely hope that the above "three notes" to be played at tonight's concert will help us build consensus and pool our strength to ensure the steady and sustained development of the China-UK 'Golden Era,'" Liu said.

James Williams, managing director of the RPO, recalled that the RPO has been regularly touring China for over 25 years and has forged strong partnerships with promoters, orchestras, artists, audiences and education institutes in China.

"It has been equally wonderful to welcome Chinese Orchestras here to UK to perform in our most prestigious concert halls," he said.

Williams said he believes music has the ability to bridge cultural and political differences through one shared language. "We feel confident that this evening's concert will further strengthen the strong ties between the UK and China."

The "China Night" concert in London is the first of six concerts that will take place across the world, a global series initiated by China Philharmonic Orchestra, one of China's leading symphony orchestras.
