More students in Tibet benefit from education allowance
From:Xinhua  |  2020-06-05 08:29

LHASA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has allocated more than 2.54 billion yuan (around 357 million U.S. dollars) for expenses of 648,600 students in 2020, according to the regional bureau of education.

The outlay, which covers tuition, food and housing expenses of students, is aimed at promoting educational development in Tibet. More than 20 billion yuan has been allocated for the allowance since 1985.

Losang Cering, 23, from an impoverished family of Qusum County, completed studies at a local vocational college with the help of the allowance policy, which waived all his tuition fees over three years and also provided him 3,000 yuan annually to meet living costs.

After he found a job in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, on his graduation this year, the regional government gave him 5,000 yuan for traveling expenses and another 8,000 yuan to help him settle down in the new city. Enditem
