New
version of ‘The Rite of Spring’, performed by Portuguese
and Chinese dancers
Seven Portuguese dancers from Quorum Ballet and
seven Chinese dancers brought world premiere of the dance drama ‘The Rite of
Spring’ at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on the night of
January 24. This version is the most “Chinese” since the birth of this dance
drama.
Quorum Ballet, founded
by Daniel Cardoso, made its debut at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
This new version lasts about 75 minutes and is divided into three
parts, and the second part is “China”. The actors put the mud on the face and
body and wear costumes like the armors of Terracotta Warriors in the third part
of the drama. In Cardoso's view, Terracotta Warriors represent the beginning of
China's rise and the sacrifice reflected by them and the theme of the drama echo.
