With the help of professional makeup artists and photographers, and in reference to pottery figurine and mural painting of Tang Dynasty(618-907), Ao tried hard to restore the makeup and hairstyle of ladies of Tang dynasty.

Amid the recent reviving museum culture and the joyous atmosphere of the Lantern Festival, Ao’s meme which is themed at eating glutinous rice balls, a traditional food of the festival breaks through the original circle formed by enthusiasts of Han costumes and spreads to the public on social networks.

Han costume is the traditional costumes of the Han nationality from the enthronement of Yellow Emperor (2697-2589 BC) to late Ming and early Qing dynasty(1620-1720 years). In recent years, a group of young people has been gathering on the internet and even holding offline parties to communicate their love of the Han costume.

A mainstream philosophy circulating among Han costume enthusiasts is that all styles of costumes should be designed according to historical fact, especially unearthed cultural relics and fresco. However, most designers tend to adopt more flexible styles which meet the modern aesthetic. The mix&match with fashionable dress has made Han costumes a more and more daily clothing and gain popularity.
