New Figurative Expression Oil Painting Teaching and Achievement Exhibition grandly opened at the Liu Haisu Art Museum

Professor Zhang Deming delivered the opening speech for the exhibition

The Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai University New Figurative Expression Oil Painting Teaching and Achievement Exhibition grandly opened at the Liu Haisu Art Museum in the afternoon of September 30. Nearly 100 pieces of art works of Professor Zhang Deming and his postgraduate students ( master’s degree and doctoral degree) focusing on such areas of research as “Image and Plane”, “Narration and Expression”, “Objects and Imagery”, will be displayed at the exhibition, to showcase the teaching contents and diversification trend of New Figurative Expression Oil Painting and wrap up the achievements of the teaching efforts.

The were more than 100 guests across the art community present at the opening ceremony including Feng Yuan, Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association and Dean of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Xu Xu, Deputy secretary of CPC Shanghai University, Qiu Ruimin, former Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association and Dean of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Yu Xiaofu, Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association and Dean of College of Fine Arts, Shanghai Normal University, Chen Jing, Secretary of CPC Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and Ruan Jun, Deputy Director of Liu Haisu Art Museum, as well as famous oil painters like Liao Jiongmo, Xia Baoyuan, Lin Qining and Jin Jifa.

 

New Figurative Expression Oil Painting advocates pure academic exploration and is centered around the research of the forms of expression and language of New Figuration. This approach pursues "optimized ecological diversification" in both art creation and academic teaching. It adopts a newer way of observation and expression of the surroundings and thus creates new meanings different from traditional figurative painting.

The exhibition will be open to the public until October 8.
