By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2019-01-18 09:53

A series of challenge videos from China has gone viral on social media, touching the hearts of netizens around the world.

The first video was shared on Douyin, a Chinese version of the video app TikTok.

First, a child is seen calling out to her mother, who then jumps into frame. Then the mother calls out to the child’s grandparent, who also comes into view. Last, the grandparent calls out to the child’s great-grandparent, who walks in front of the camera with a beaming face.

From an innocent child to an elderly person wearing a traditional cotton jacket, for the Chinese who place a high value on family and kinship, the video might be the best definition of "happiness".

After the video went viral, a BuzzFeed reporter posted the popular clip on Twitter, which received 18 million views and 340,000 retweets within just three days as Western audiences also fell in love with the cute meme, especially the smiling great-grandparent. Thus a video challenge going by the name “Four generations under one roof” was born.

Foreign media also reported on the video, saying the meme was melting hearts online. Many Internet users commented that the videos made them miss their own grandparents who are no longer alive.

(Reactions of Douyin users are positive.)

It is reported that Ms. Geng, who took the video using Douyin, was surprised to find her video had become a hit online. In her extended family, there are 26 people. The video was taken on her father's birthday on January 13, an occasion when the whole family was reunited. Moved by the happy family reunion, she wanted to shoot a video on a whim to record the special moment.
