Female self-consumption surges

Data released on International Women’s Day by the leading Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo, shows that women’s self-consumption has seen a significant increase, especially in clothing and beauty products.

Flowers are mostly attractive to females born after 1995, and more than 70% of female customers of this year’s Pinduoduo Women’s Day sales period bought flowers for themselves.

Lipstick is the most frequently searched term for this group. High-end lipsticks that embellish the lips with natural ingredients and highlight women’s confidence are widely sought after by young girls under the age of 25.

Women in their thirties pay more attention to a product’s practicality and are keen on products like sweeping robots which can free them and their partner from housework. For those over the age of 40, skin care products are what they care most for.

At a time when females have more independence, statistics also show that Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing rank among the top three in female consumption sales volume.
