Nightless city in Yuyuan Garden
By:Wu Qiong   |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2019-09-20 18:14

For old Shanghainese, Yuyuan Garden is a place that they call home; for tourists, the garden represents the Ming-era glamour of Shanghai. But when the sun sets and the garden closes, what is the night life around the garden itself like? On September 16, the night economy in the tourist spot kicked off, turning itself into the trendiest place for people to go at night.

In the central square of Yuyuan Garden, visitors can have an opportunity to enjoy a light show at three time slots: 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00. Colorful lights are projected on the ancient buildings surrounding the square, providing the audience with an entrancing and immersive cultural experience via multi-media technology.

In addition to lighting and projection, a variety of well-choreographed art performances are one of the biggest attractions of the garden at night.

As night falls, the lotus lanterns by the Mid-Lake Pavilion will light up, illuminating and reflecting on the lake. Costumed artists sit on the end of a boat and play the pipa (Chinese lute), violin, flute, and saxophone. Looking from the zigzag bridge, visitors are mesmerized by the melodious music and the beautiful scenery.

Night is a perfect time for shopping. The night bazaar in Yuyuan Garden is also open for the public. A wide array of cultural creative products inspired by the Palace Museum, the 24 solar terms and contemporary artworks have been selected and are available for sale.
