China’s first CINEX-D 8K imaging laboratory has opened in Shanghai. The lab, located in the Mercedes-Benz Arena, features two screens with sizes of 300 and 500 inches, professional laser projectors and 8K definition displays.
The first audience watched the 8K ultra-high definition (UHD) short film “Heaven, earth and human”. They were so amazed at the high quality of the images that one person marveled, “I can even see a single hair clearly!”
The 8K Imaging Laboratory took two months to construct, including two 8K high-definition projection halls equipped with a state-of-the-art digital playback system and 6,000 and 25,000-lumen laser projectors, among other technology. A high-definition color TV can only cover 35 percent of the natural color spectrum, whereas the color coverage of an 8K projector can reach 75-99 percent.
That is to say, this lab has astonishing detail depiction ability and expressiveness, and will enable the audience to see more details, and allow producers to convey more information in one picture. What’s more, content visualization can make more progress in astronomy, science, landscape recording and other fields.
In the future, film screenings and themed salons will be held in the lab, providing visitors with an immersive viewing experience and promoting related industries. Interested citizens can reserve seats in advance for free, and there is a wide range of films both from home and abroad to choose from.
