Michelin announced its 2020 picks for Shanghai in their fourth installment of the city’s guide. A total of 40 restaurants in the city received stars.

Nine restaurants earned their first Michelin star in the 2020 guide: Chen Long Hang (Huangpu); Jin Xuan; Maison Lameloise; Da Vittorio; Ming Court; Moose (Pudong); Xin Rong Ji (West Nangjing Road); and Yu Zhi Lan.

This year, Michelin inspectors promoted two new restaurants to the two-starred club, which are Ji Pin Court and Taian Table. At the same time, T'ang Court and Yi Long Court both lost a star. To some people’s surprise, Madam Goose, a restaurant which dominated the list for several years for its duck and other traditional dishes, was removed from the list this year.

French chef Paul Pairet’s interactive avant-garde restaurant, Ultraviolet, remains the highest-ranked address in Shanghai, and is the sole establishment to hold three Michelin stars in the city.

“With each update of the Michelin Guide, we hope to showcase the development and progress of the catering industry,” said Kamran Vossoughi, president and chairman of Michelin China in a press conference on September 19.

“In the hope of starting a new journey, Michelin released its first 2020 guide in Shanghai,” added Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide.

It is reported that the 2020 Beijing Michelin Guide will be unveiled on November 28.
