Since June, the regions south of the Yangtze River have seen increasing torrential downpours with geological disasters occurring in numerous places, seriously threatening local cultural relics.

On July 7, the Zhenhai Bridge, a state-level cultural relics protection site in Tunxi District in Anhui’s Huangshan city, with a history of more than 400 years, was washed away by the roaring Xin’an River during a heavy rainstorm.

Just one day before that, Lecheng Bridge, the second largest ancient bridge in southern Anhui, was also seriously damaged by floods.

Ancient sites in Sichuan and Hubei have also experienced similar disasters due to the river surge.
