Largest water lily exhibition opens in Shanghai

The largest water lily exhibition in Shanghai was opened to the public on August 18th at the Chen Shan Botanical Garden. The exhibition will last for a month with over 300 types of water lily on display in five exhibition sections covering altogether about 10,000 square meters. Nearly 10 varieties of water lily are on display at the garden for the first time, many of which have won awards at the International Waterlily & Water Gardening Society(IWGS).

The theme colour of this year’s fair is blue-purple. People can enjoy nearly 300 waterlily pots of this colour in the park. Meanwhile various kinds of activities like lectures, movies for kids and night trips for families will be organized during the exhibition as well.

Rassamee jan, was named the Best Tropical Waterlily by IWGS in 2018. Its tall and straight dark yellow stamens standout on the blue and purple petals, just like gleaming moon light.

Midsummer’s slender, star shaped and radial petals are pink with purple spots or stripes, and are similar to strawberry ice cream dotted with blueberry sauce.

Aegean Sea’spetals are yellow and inlaid with blue-green stripes or patches. Viewed from a distance, you may find them like a real-life oil painting.

Lyra’s pleated blue purple petals contrast with the dark yellow stamens, which is quite eye-catching.

Carpentariae, a tropical water lily, is a subgenus of the Australian water lily. Surrounded by pale blue petals, there is a little red spot in the center.

Jakkaphong, was a two-time IWG Sprize winnerin 2017. Its deep pink petals are luscious.
