The 2021 Shanghai Michelin Guide was released on October 21 with 43 restaurants on the list.

Among the 32 one star restaurants, four are newly listed ones, respectively offering Cantonese, Fujian and Shanghai cuisine.

ULTRAVIOLET by Paul Pairet has been awarded three Michelin stars for four consecutive years, and Bao Li Xuan and DaVittorio have upgraded to two stars from last year’s one star.

This year marks the fifth year that the Michelin Guide has been introduced to Shanghai. A service award and young chef award has been added this year to reward individual restaurant staff. For example, Chen Zhiping, from Meet The Bund, a newly listed Cantonese cuisine restaurant, won the 2021 Michelin Shanghai young chef award.

“2020 is a special year, we hope that the Michelin Guide can give high-quality guidance to more gourmet enthusiasts and also inject vitality into the catering industry,”said Kamran Vossoughi, president and CEO of Michelin Greater China.
