A World Internet Development Report 2020 was released at the World Internet Conference and Internet Development Forum that opened in Wuzhen, Zhejiang on November 23.

The report comprehensively demonstrates the Internet’s development level, identifies new trends and analyzes the profound impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic on it.

According to the report, people are increasingly dependent on the internet amid the pandemic, so countries should strengthen cooperation in the internet field to respond to challenges.

Data shows that in 2020, the number of internet users globally is 4.54 billion, an increase of nearly 300 million from 2019. As of June 2020, the number of Internet users in China was 940 million. In terms of information infrastructure, China has built the world’s largest information and communication network.

Moreover, China’s homegrown internet capability and technology are gradually increasing.
