Shanghai Laogang Landfill, the terminal for 70% of Shanghai’s domestic garbage, is undergoing its third transformation.

Since the landfill aims to develop a comprehensive ecological and environmental protection circular economy, it is stepping up to construct and debug new equipment so as to improve the garbage disposal capacity.

For example, the first phase of the Bio-Energy Reuse Center, specially created for wet waste disposal, has been in operation since October 2019, with a design capacity of 1,000 tons of food waste per day.“The real capacity is higher, sometimes reaching 1,400 tons a day,” said Zhang Weitao, deputy manager of the center.

The second phase that is undergoing construction has a design capacity of 1,500 tons per day with a biogas pretreatment function for power generation from wet garbage biogas.

The renewable building materials utilization center located on the southeastern side of Laogang has been debugging since its construction was finished two months ago. It is scheduled to be the terminal of decoration garbage and also the largest such center nationwide for building garbage to be reused as roadbed.
