Flagship cruise ships to sail from China in 2022

While the cruise industry is still faced with the challenges of the pandemic, the manufacturing of cruise ships in some shipbuilding yards in Europe is still in full swing. Some flagship ocean liners are already planning to sail from China in the next few years.

MSC Virtuosa is set to sail from China next year, serving the Chinese cruise market together with her sister ship MSC Bellissima (the biggest ocean liner in Asia), announced Swiss-based MSC Cruises on January 14. For the first time, MSC Cruises will operate two ships in the Chinese market in 2022.

At the same time, Wonder of the Seas, the newest Oasis-class cruise ship from Royal Caribbean, is also under construction and set to be completed and launched in the Chinese market next year. At 230,000-gross tons, she will be the largest cruise ship in the world. This is a piece of exciting news for Chinese tourists who love large cruise ships and are always ready to try new things.

Also from Royal Caribbean, Spectrum of the Seas will depart from Shenzhen’s Shekou Port this year, offering a diverse range of itineraries, taking vacationers to more destinations over 19 nights.

At present, ports in some countries and regions have taken the lead in the resumption of cruises. In late July 2020, Explorer Dream under Dream Cruises kickstarted sailings in Keelung with island-hopping itineraries with stops in destinations in Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu. And in Singapore Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas resumed cruises in November and December 2020. The cruise industry’s recovery in China is also much anticipated.
