Starting from June 25, the 9th Shanghai Lotus and Water Lily Exhibition will be held in Guyi Garden for one month. Guyi Garden was built during the Jiajing Reign of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566), and is the largest among the five famous classical gardens in Shanghai.

A total of 2,000 pots of lotuses of about 500 varieties will be shown in this exhibition, among which 20 lotus species will be shown for the first time in Shanghai. 330 pots of water lilies of about 230 varieties will be exhibited, among which 15 species will be shown for the first time in Shanghai.

Coinciding with the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a series of red lotus species are very eye-catching.

A number of special lotus species are being exhibited in Guyi Garden, including "China Red and Jinggang Mountain", "China Red and Shanghai", "China Red and Xibaipo" and "China Red and Ruijin".

Some of the lotus species which are being exhibited in Guyi Garden in this special year have been cultivated by domestic lotus breeding experts after years of scientific research.

The lotus flowers and hardy water lilies that have even been carried to space by rocket are also worthy of appreciation.
