Unlicensed doctor jailed after fatality
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-05-19 01:29

AN unlicensed doctor in Fengxian District was jailed after causing the death of a paralyzed patient.

The husband of the female patient, surnamed Wang, sought help for his wife’s condition from the doctor, surnamed Shou, last September. Shou drove to Wang’s house every day for two weeks from last September 5, bringing with him his own “treatment facilities.”

Shou, with the help of the husband, would make Wang lie on her stomach. The doctor then connected her to a machine before massaging her. At the 14th treatment session, Wang said she felt uncomfortable and could not breathe. She lost consciousness and was later announced dead by medical staff.

Shou was charged for illegal practice of medicine by Fengxian District People’s Procuratorate, which said medical test results showed Wang had died of heart stroke, caused by Shou’s “treatment.”

He was given a two-year jail term with three years’ probation, as well as being ordered to pay a 10,000 yuan (US$1,450) fine.
