A China Eastern Airlines' passenger aircraft from Sydney to Shanghai was diverted back to Sydney yesterday after a crack appeared on the aircraft engine casing.
The Airbus 330 returned to Kingsford Smith International Airport at around 10pm Sydney time after it took off from the airport at 8:40pm.
The flight MU736 was scheduled to land at Pudong at 5am today.
Crew members found the left engine casing was broken after take-off and decided to fly back immediately. The aircraft landed smoothly with all passengers safe, the airline said.
The Shanghai-based airline said it had arrangements for the passengers.
