THE Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts announced in Shanghai yesterday it will issue an award later this year for Best Asian Film, recognizing excellence in filmmaking throughout the Asian region.
The academy also announced during the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival the launch of its Asia International Engagement Program. The program’s China element will cooperate with the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Officials said that the program aims to promote the skills and achievements of Australian screen practitioners in Asia and further develop pathways for collaborations between Australia and its Asian neighbors. The inaugural Best Asian Film Award will be presented at the 2017 Australian academy awards on December 6 in Sydney.
