Drugs ‘transported in glutinous rice’
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-06-23 03:29

A group of five accused of trafficking 3 kilograms of drugs to Shanghai hidden in traditional Chinese zong zi food have been arrested for transporting and selling drugs.

Qingpu District prosecutors said three of them, surnamed Lu, Jiang and Lin, were involved in a 3kg of methamphetamine, or ice, deal, paying 120,000 yuan (US$17,560) in Chengdu province. Lu hid the drugs in two gift boxes of zong zi — glutinous rice stuffed with fillings and wrapped in leaves.

On May 16, Lu and Jiang each carried a box and took a train to Shanghai and were arrested at Hongqiao Railway Station.

Lin and a friend flew to Chengdu on May 20 and through another drug dealer, arranged for a subordinate surnamed Li to bring more drugs four days later to Shanghai, prosecutors said.

On May 24, the three were caught when trading the drugs in a residential complex in Yangpu District.
