Thumbs up for a Yunnan girl
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-07-17 01:29

A 12-year-old rural girl from Yunnan Province is scheduled to receive charity surgery this afternoon to repair a deformed thumb on her left hand.

It is the second operation of a challenging three-stage treatment, which involves transplanting bones from her foot onto the thumb to help to regain thumb and hand functions.

Gu Binbin, who also received a charity surgery for congenital heart disease in Shanghai in 2015, received a first-stage thumb surgery in the city last year.

Shanghai Huamei Plastic Surgery Hospital gave a donation to Shanghai Charity Federation to sponsor Gu’s surgery.

Because of a congenital deformity, Gu’s left-hand thumb was not functioning at all, impacting her life and her studies.
