Plan to make Pudong airport easier to reach
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-09-11 01:29

AN expressway will be built in the Pudong New Area to connect downtown Pudong and Pudong airport.

The district's planning body said the 14-kilometer expressway will run above Longdong Avenue, and the road itself will be improved, making it quicker to drive to Pudong International Airport as well as offering more convenient links to Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park and Jinqiao, Tangzhen, Caolu and Heqing towns. The elevated highway will have three lanes in each direction, with a designed driving speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

Residents in downtown Pudong currently drive to the airport via Huaxia Elevated Road or Yingbin Expressway, which become congested during rush hours, an official with the bureau said.

The newly planned Longdong Expressway offers a third fast link to the airport with both elevated and ground options, he added. The bureau is soliciting public opinion on the renovation and new construction plan through to September 24. A detailed schedule on the project has yet to be decided.

According to the plan, the new elevated expressway will connect with the city's inner, middle and outer ring roads to relieve congestion on the three major thoroughfares. Ramps have been designed on Keyuan, Jinke, Zhangjiang, Gutang and Linkong roads to make it more convenient to reach the outskirt towns in Pudong.

The existing Longdong Avenue, which lies between the Inner Ring Road and G1501 Expressway, or the city’s beltway, will receive a major renovation to become a ground expressway with three fast lanes and one slow lane in each direction. The designed driving speed on the renovated road is 50 kilometers per hour, according to the bureau.
