THE city’s three main railway stations are expected to see 4.29 million passengers depart during the holiday travel rush, starting from today.
Passenger traffic is expected to increase by 268,000, or 6.66 percent, over the same period last year.
The 11-day travel rush will end on October 8, the city’s railway authority said. It added the peak traffic day is expected to be this Sunday, when about 485,000 passengers are estimated to be leaving Shanghai via the railways.
To meet demand, the authority has added 221 train services, starting yesterday to October 8, with this Sunday and the following Sunday being given priority.
