AI contest for young kids a glimpse at the future
From:Shine  |  2018-02-07 14:29

A child-targeted artificial intelligence contest was held in the city over the weekend with four groups of children competing in the final round.

The International Youth AI Olympiad, organized by the Artificial Intelligence International Joint Lab UC Berkeley Center and Harvard Business Review, took place at ISPACE in Zhangjiang High Tech Park on Saturday, with competitors demonstrating their AI research results to the judges.

The childrenaged between 10 and 16 received a week's training in areas including computer-related skills, robot programming and artificial intelligence basics, as well as some entrepreneurial courses.

The four kids in each team served as a company's Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Technology Officer and then worked together on an AI product and its commercial plan.

The products they came up with included a facial recognition suspect tracking system for police, augmented reality glasses and a dietary health analysis machine.

Chen Qizhen, a 10-year-old, was the CEO of a team developing a robot baby care system for families, especially those with a second child. He said the most difficult part in their project was the face recognition, which was required to identify a baby's facial expressions.

The team who created augmented reality glasses won the contest in the end.
