A man has been charged with illegally capturing 37 wild birds to pamper his stomach, according to Shanghai Railway Transportation Procuratorate.
Between mid-November and December 6, 2017, the suspect surnamed Gu allegedly netted 11,000 yuan (US$1,754) worth of wild birds, including protected species like pale thrush and common blackbird, in bushes in Chongming District.
Prosecutors said Gu plucked the birds and stored them at home for eating. Chongming, which has a nature reserve for birds, bans wildlife hunting. Gu will be tried for illegal hunting, prosecutors said.
Besides, he was accused of destroying the country’s wildlife resources, causing the state loss and harming the public interests. So, prosecutors demanded he shouldcompensate the government and make a public apology.
