Over 60 new mothers brought their babies to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital of Fudan University to do mother-baby yoga in celebration of Mother’s Day.
Doctors said pelvic floor function disorder is prevalent among women, especially those who have given birth, although it can be helped by certain exercises.
The disorder can deteriorate with age and seriously influence a woman’s life with symptoms that include urinary incontinence.
The incidence of pelvic floor diseases is 28 percent across the nation and 40 percent among women aged over 45. Proper training during pregnancy and after childbirth, as well as timely treatment, are important factors in preventing and controlling problems. The best time to perform training is six months after birth, doctors said.
Mother-baby yoga can exercise the pelvic muscle while at the same time enhancing the relationship between mother and child, doctors said.
In addition, musical concerts were held for pregnant women at local maternity hospitals.
Putuo District Maternity and Child Health Hospital has been offering such concerts every Mother's Day for pregnant women to help them ease their anxiety and boost the development of their babies.
