Representatives from 10 major service industries, including customs, communications, electricity and civil aviation, promised to improve their services at a ceremony in Xujiahui commercial area on May 15, 2018

The city's service sector yesterday pledged to offer better services in preparation for the first China International Import Expo to be hosted in Shanghai this November.

A ceremony held in Xujiahui on Tuesday morning marked the beginning of preparations for local service sectors as they gear up for the event to be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from November 5 to 10.

Chen Zhongheng, a driver from Dazhong Taxi Co, for instance, said on behalf of local cab drivers that they would keep their cars clean and work hard to ensure the safety of customers.

Over 60 volunteers began serving customers at the Xujiahui commercial area from Tuesday. The volunteers, wearing red ribbons, will offer all kinds of help at the bustling commercial area, according to the district government.

Xujiahui Commercial Co will take the lead to offer "warm and considerate" services to customers, as well as ensuring the "genuineness" of its products and prices, said Wang Bin, general manager with the company.

Meanwhile, a volunteer league was established on Tuesday in Xuhui District to serve residents and tourists at landmarks such as the West Bund waterfront and theHengshan-Fuxingroads historical region.

More such events have been planned in other districts to improve the services and image of the city up until the opening of the event, which is shaping up to be the city's biggest event since World Expo 2010.
