Marking International Museum Day, 29 museums in the Yangtze River Delta region have set up an alliance to promote educational activities and cooperation.

The museums, including the Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Museum, Zhejiang Province Museum and Anhui Museum, said they will build a platform for sharing cultural resources to develop a world-class public cultural service system in the delta region.

They pledged to share educational resources, technologies and staff, and to organize educational expos, academic seminars and training workshops for teachers.

At a weekend forum attended by museum curators, educators and enterprise representatives, Yang Zhigang, curator of Shanghai Museum, said museums should reflect their communities.

A cooperative program initiated last December last year between his museum and counterparts in the cities of Nanjing and Suzhou proved very successful, he said.

The three museums staged related exhibitions on the theme of culture in the area south of the Yangtze River and organized student field trips to view the exhibitions.

Liu Wentao, curator of the Nanjing Museum, said museums must be diligent in meeting the needs of visitors of different ages, educational backgrounds and personal interests.
