Four downtown bridges on the Huangpu River will get exterior lighting updates, the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said yesterday.
The four bridges — Yangpu, Nanpu, Lupu and Xupu — are prime examples of Shanghai’s progress in urban development, but their lighting equipment is in need of updating, according to the bureau.
With new lights, power supply equipment and computer control systems, the upgrading project aims to improve lighting of the bridges’ main towers, cables and other exterior surfaces; while the main arch of the Lupu Bridge will be illuminated with rainbow lighting.
The bureau said the bridges will be equipped with LED lights, and lighting hours and brightness will be strictly controlled to conserve energy.
The upgrading project will be conducted during non-peak hours and at night to avoid interfering with traffic on the bridges, said the bureau.
