From:Shine  |  2018-07-13 15:29

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Hung Hsiu-chu, former chairperson of Taiwan’s Kuomintang Party and chairperson of the China Qingyan Peace Education Foundation, and her delegation on Thursday.

Li showed his appreciation for Hung’s adherence to the 1992 Consensus, her objection to the Taiwan independence movement, and her support for the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations and the exchange among the youth of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.

Li said Shanghai has attracted so many Taiwan compatriots to live, work, and invest in the city and it will keep providing more preferential policies to the Taiwan compatriots in the regard of their study, employment, livelihood and entrepreneurship.

This November, Shanghai will host the first China International Import Expo and the city welcomes Taiwan’s companies to participate in the expo and share business opportunities with the Chinese mainland.

Li hoped the youth of the two places can have more exchanges to promote the future peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations. Shanghai is willing to promote the integrated economic and social development of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan and to contribute to the wellbeing of the people.

Hung said she has great faith in the future development of the cross-Strait relations. Her current visit was mainly to promote the youth exchanges between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland and to learn about the operations of Taiwan companies here.

This year the Chinese mainland introduced 31 preferential policies for Taiwan compatriots and companies, and Shanghai also introduced 55 such policies. Taiwan hopes to take advantage of the policies to promote the cooperation and exchanges among the youth of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.

Zheng Gangmiao, minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Committee, and Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
