Shanghai traffic police have introduced a new camera which catches drivers who illegally change two lanes in the same maneuver.

The first batch of the new cameras was installed on Gonghexin Road near Guangzhong Road W., and in the past two months it's caught over 1,200 offenses, police said on Thursday.

A driver is caught changing two lanes in one go at 4:30pm on July 24.

The camera is specifically set up to detect this exact offense and takes pictures as evidence, police said. Drivers are then fined 200 yuan (US$30).

More such cameras will be installed in other parts of the city where necessary, police said.
