Shanghai steadfast in Pudong's reform and opening-up: Li Qiang
From:Shine  |  2018-08-19 09:29

Shanghai will continue the historical mission of reform and opening-up of the Pudong New Area, Li Qiang, Party secretary of Shanghai, said in a recent article in Qiushi Journal.

"Pudong has made great achievements in reform and opening-up. It formed an advanced, open system, a dynamic innovative system, a modern industry and a sound social welfare system," Li said in the article.

He said that China's central government specifically set up the country's first pilot free trade zone in Pudong because it valued the existing systems and the strategic advantage of the area.

"President Xi Jinping personally requested Shanghai build itself into a world-class technological innovation center," he wrote, adding that President Xi hopes Shanghai will look at new, innovative ways of managing a megacity.

Li promises that Shanghai will continue to improve its capacity and competitiveness, innovate to create a world-class business environment, and push forward coordinated development of the Yangtze River Delta Region.

On top of that, Li said in the article that improving the livelihoods, benefits, and quality of life of the city's residents is also high on the agenda.
