New batch of officials in frugality breaches
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2018-09-18 02:29

About 10 city officials have been punished for violating the Party’s frugality rules, Shanghai’s disciplinary watchdog said yesterday.

The officials include senior officials with water, construction, police and village authorities who attended dinner parties, received gifts or cash, or banqueted at public expense, according to the CPC Shanghai Commission for Discipline Inspection.

The commission asked for more frequent study sessions along with stricter management and supervision of officials ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.

The Communist Party of China launched a frugality campaign in December 2012, the eight-point rules, to stamp out extravagance among officials.

Among those punished were Wang Feng, deputy director of the construction management department of the water authority, and Bai Tao, deputy Party secretary and discipline inspection commission secretary of the city’s water construction safety and quality watchdog.

They attended a banquet in January and received 2,000 yuan (US$290) in cash each.

Bai has been sacked from his Party and discipline commission roles and was ordered to pay back the cash. Wang received a warning after voluntarily returning the money.

In a similar case, Xu Jianfu, deputy director with the quality and safety supervision department of the housing and construction commission has received a warning along with Xie Yiping with the construction department of the commission, for attending a banquet and each receiving 2,000 yuan in cash.

Guo Shi, deputy director of Zhongshan police station in Songjiang District got an administrative demerit for attending a banquet and accepting mooncake coupons to the value of 1,000 yuan.
