If you are caught out, Expo court can assist
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2018-10-09 04:29

QINGPU District People’s Court has set up a tribunal at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, with a bilingual website, ahead of the upcoming China International Import Expo.

Shanghai Qingpu District People’s Court West Hongqiao People’s Tribunal will mainly handle civil and commercial cases. It will continue to operate after the expo ends.

Officials said it aims to become an international commercial tribunal which respects and adapts international economic and trade rules in accordance with Chinese laws and will give equal protection to both domestic and overseas commercial bodies.

It will provide one-stop services in litigation, mediation and arbitration by a team of judges, judicial experts, local and foreign mediators and college student volunteers.

“Our judges and student volunteers can all use English to communicate with the foreign parties involved in a case,” a tribunal official said.

The tribunal’s bilingual website provides information about the tribunal and the court, the expo, and outlines its services and trial studies.

By September 30, Shanghai courts had accepted 18 cases related to the expo, of which 16 were accepted by the district court in Qingpu. The cases cover disputes such as house-leasing and equity transfer, said Sheng Yongqiang, vice-president of Shanghai Higher People’s Court.
