Nami Box, an educational mobile phone application, was asked to rectify problems after authorities found it had vulgar and pornographic information, the national watchdog against pornographic and illegal publications announced on Monday in a statement.
Nami Box is quite popular among Shanghai parents who use it to download digital versions of textbooks, learning materials and online courses.
According to the statement, the Shanghai office against pornographic and illegal publications had asked the Shanghai Cyberspace Administration, Shanghai Education Commission and the city's cultural law enforcement team to investigate the problem.
Investigation found that Nami Box, operated by Shanghai Jinxin Internet Technology Co, had conducted online publication business without approval, providing online publications on its website and app for users to browse, download and use.
Authorities also found content against social morals, which might induce juveniles to imitate.
Law enforcement officers talked to the operators on October 30 and ordered them to delete related content and close involved sections, including "Growth Circle," "Video Show," "Artistic Show" and "Honor Hall."
Officers also asked to operators to show their rectification conditions on prominent positions on its homepage and app.
The operators have taken measures to rectify the problems the next day.
Further investigation is going on.
