Art fair begins at West Bund waterfront

Visitors enjoy hundreds of contemporary artworks from global artists at the annual West Bund Art & Design fair in Xuhui District which opens to public on Thursday.

Hundreds of contemporary artworks from art galleries around the world are being exhibited at the Huangpu River waterfront in XuhuiDistrict for the annual West Bund Art & Design fair which opened to public on Thursday.

The artworks, including paintings, sculptures, art installations and photos, are displayed both within the West Bund Art Center, which was renovated from a historical aircraft manufacturing plant, and outdoor venues of the waterfront region.

The exhibition covering an area of over 20,000 square meters gathers art pieces from 115 art galleries from 43 cities around the world. They include famous galleries such as Boers-Li Gallery from New York, Ben Brown Fine Arts from London, The Breeder from Athens and the Berlin Contemporary Fine Arts CFA.

Over 20 artworks from renowned artists are being exhibited across the Xuhui riverside region, known as the West Bund during the fair through Sunday.

A painting named "At A Distance To The Foreground" has been created on the exterior walls of the art center. A glass artwork "Stele" from Chinese artist Liu Jianhua is displayed at the entrance of Tank Shanghai, an art park converted from five preserved huge fuel tank. Some sculptures such as an inflatable artwork "Fruit Tree" are showcased around the West Bund Art Plaza.

As a highlight, over 100 video clips made by some 90 artists from around the world are being played around clock on a large screen at the West Bund during the fair. Visitors will be able to learn the video art development in the last three decades in China and around the world, according to the organizer.

A forum themed "West Bund Voice" will also be held during the fair where global artists, collectors, gallery owners and curators will share their experiences with audiences.
