From:Shine  |  2018-11-13 10:29

People take strolls on the rainbow bridge in Qingpu District in Shanghai on October 3, 2018.

The curtain fell on the first China International Import Expo last Saturday, but for Qingpu District where it was and will continue to be held, it is just a beginning.

During the event, Qingpu organized the largest purchasing group among 16 groups in the city. On the CIIE's first day, the district signed a US$228 million deal with Sino-US International Helicopter Investment Group.

“CIIE has made us known to the world,” said Xia Kejia, the district's director. “Even before the expo started many companies would seek opportunities here.”

By the end of October, 1,341 companies had set up headquarters or offices in Qingpu, including Netease, Sinar Mas Group from Indonesia and CHN energy.

TeguhWidjaya, CEO of Sinar Mas Group, said Qingpuwas Shanghai’s gateway of opening up in the integration of Yangtze River Delta and CIIE just offered more chances for the district to showcase itself.

Meanwhile, four trade platforms in the district are tostart year-round operations as partially “an extension of the CIIE,” said Zhao Huiqin, the district's Party secretary. One of them, DLG Import Commodities Center, has already attracted more than 100 enterprises to exhibit their products.

President Xi Jinping announced in his keynote speech at the expo opening ceremony that the Shanghai Stock Exchange will launch a new science and technology innovation board, and the new trading platform will experiment with a registration-based system for listed companies.

“We consider this a golden chance to promote more science innovation and help these companies push through their listing plans,” said Zhao.

He said the district will keep on working with neighboring provinces and gather more professionals and entrepreneurs to build a national level high-tech zone.

Traditionally known for its agriculture and tourism, Qingpu is also planning to combine its rural revitalization with the progress of YangzteRiver Delta integration.

There are 12 water towns and over 20 3A level tourist destinations around Dianshan Lake, which is mostly in Qingpu, with its east part in Jiangsu.

“Qingpu has a number of beautiful water towns as well as a rich history of revolutionary tradition,” Zhao said of the district’s tourism resources. “We will collaborate with Jiangsu and Zhejiang and connect our water towns and red tourism resources with theirs.”
