From:Shine  |  2018-12-14 15:29

Yueyang Hospital for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine became Shanghai's first TCM hospital to be recognized as a China Heart Pain Center and Atrial Fibrillation Center, reflecting its capabilities in emergency heart disease diagnosis and treatment, hospital officials announced on Thursday.

A network led by Yueyang with another ten grassroots hospitals inHongkou and Baoshan districts was also established to provide qualified and efficient emergency medical service for patients with acute heart pain and other heart complications.

"Focusing on both TCM and Western medicine, we have developed health care services and therapies in line with local people and have achieved better effects than simply using Western medication," said Dr Zhou Jia, president of Yueyang hospital.

With the improvement of life quality and change of diet and other life habits, cardiovascular diseases have become the top killer for Chinese. The heart pain center is an emergency green channel offering quick diagnoses and treatment for patients with severe and fatal complications like acute myocardial infarction, aortic dissection and pulmonary artery embolism.

The world’s first heart pain center was established in the United States in 1981 and has been promoted worldwide. China began carrying out evaluation and recognition of heart pain centers from 2013.

Atrial fibrillation, or irregular heartbeat, is another challenge in the cardiovascular field. There are over 10 million people with the condition in China, posing a rising burden on the public and government.
