From:Shine  |  2019-09-20 14:29

Shot and edited by Zhou Shengjie. Subtitles by Wang Xinzhou and Andy Boreham.

Shanghai's Metro system is, to put it simply, a modern wonder. It's the longest in the world, stretching hundreds of kilometers and serving millions of passengers each day.

But even the world's most modern subway lines need to keep with the times, and Shanghai is no exception. A raft of new technologies and innovations are being used, not only on the front lines but also behind the scenes.

In this chapter, Shanghai Daily’s Andy Boreham visits the Line 17 maintenance base in Qingpu, where a state-of-the-art system analyzes subway cars instantly as they pass by, cutting downtime massively.

In the first chapter, Andy tested some of the new AI ticketing technologies getting people to their destinations faster. You can watch ithere. In the second instalment, we tried out some of the AI technology helping get passengers on the subway faster — check it out here for: Getting onboard faster and The team behind the scenes.
