Kites were flown high in the sky in Fengxian District on Tuesday as part of events for the ongoing 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

The festival, running through October 7, also features a food market during the National Day holiday and a 10-kilometer walking tour in the district's Haiwan scenic area.

A matchmaking event will be held in the area on October 3.

The kite-flying event is in its 22nd year.

Kite-flying has become a calling card of Haiwan tourism, said Yuan Yuan, deputy director of Fengxian District.
